How this test works
Track the aligned markers while changing speed and direction. A tear may appear as a horizontal break in alignment.
- Prepare the display using the checklist below.
- Select Start test and allow fullscreen mode if your browser asks.
- Use the arrow keys, on-screen controls, or click the pattern to move through the test.
- Exit the runner and save a local observation if useful.
Before you begin
- Use the display's native refresh rate
- Keep the browser in the foreground
- Test V-Sync or variable refresh settings separately
What to look for
- Horizontal breaks through moving bars
- Misaligned sections of the same marker
- Repeated stutter or cadence changes
Important: Browser composition often prevents visible tearing. This test cannot prove that games or other applications will be tear-free.
Frequently asked questions
What causes screen tearing?
Tearing occurs when different parts of more than one frame appear during a single display scan.
Why is no tearing visible here?
Modern browsers usually use synchronized composition, which can hide tearing even if another application tears.
Does variable refresh rate prevent tearing?
It can reduce tearing within its supported range, but configuration and frame rate still matter.
